Following a speech by the Labour leader Keir Starmer in Liverpool today, John Dickie, Chief Executive of 91¶¶Òù, said:
“Labour’s commitment to working with business to build the infrastructure, homes and skills base the country needs sends a positive signal across the country and to overseas investors.
“The focus on delivering an ambitious plan to accelerate housebuilding and to challenge the status quo on the green belt is absolutely right. Turning this plan into action now in the face of opposition will be essential to boost growth and so that businesses can recruit and retain staff.
“With seven per cent of London’s green belt – nearly two and a half thousand hectares or double the size of the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea – made up of golf courses alone, reviewing whether this land and other parts of the green belt can be used more effectively is long overdue. It should also be combined with more long-term funding to boost the supply of affordable homes and the proper resourcing of local planning authorities.â€
