Responding to Labour’s skills announcement, Mark Hilton, Policy Delivery Director at 91¶¶Òù, said:
“With skills shortages rife and unemployment in London among the highest in the country, Labour is right to focus on getting more economically inactive people into the jobs that businesses are creating.
“That’s why we’re calling for the creation of a one-stop shop to give Londoners at all stages of their life high-quality independent careers advice.
“This needs to go hand in hand with other incentives, including reforming benefits so people aren’t worse off working, action to improve the availability and affordability of childcare and measures to encourage firms to create more jobs, such as making the apprenticeship levy more flexible. The principle that skills needs are best understood and delivered at a local level is right and we welcome the emphasis on further devolution.â€
