Responding to the release of Labour’s , Polyvios Polyviou, Programme Director for Transport at 91¶¶Òù, said:
“A high-performing rail network is a vital enabler of growth across the country. It’s encouraging to see Labour outline its plans to simplify ticketing, maintain open access and establish Great British Railways – an entity we were promised some years ago – to improve coordination across the system.
“The railways are in urgent need of reform to attract more passengers and investment. At a time when the public finances are under severe pressure, however, nationalisation is not a sustainable solution. It could push up costs if short-term political interests are put before commercial interests.
“Politicians should instead work with business to create a long-term strategy that unlocks private investment and innovation, including through bold fares reforms.â€
